Goal Setting
Action Plan
Ed Rieker

Tonights Rules
• We are all friends
• We are all working
towards a common
goal
• We are all willing to
take a risk
• We are all willing to
help each other
• We have permission
to make mistakes and
try new things
Your plan for you is better
than my plan for you
Whats the
big deal
the object of a person's ambition or
effort; an aim or desired result : going to
law school has become the most important goal in
his life.
• the destination of a journey : the aircraft
bumped toward our goal some 400 miles to the
west.
• poetic/literary a point marking the end
of a race.
Why Goals
Why are you here?
The simple act of creating
written goals,
taking action on those goals,
guarantees to dramatically
improve your life.
How does it
work
Generates focus
Provides direction
Activates a hidden
power
Your abilities will
grow to match strong
dreams
Jim Rohn
Am I willing to
change who I am to
get what I want?
Here is what I want.
Don’t be afraid to ask
• Ask and you shall...
• Desire starts the
process
• Asking opens doors
• Asking begins the
quest
Ask with intelligence
• Be specific
• Be clear
• Describe it
Ask with faith
• Ask like a child
• Ask with excitement
• Won’t take no for an
answer
What to include
• Economic goals
• Income, profits, savings, net worth
• Material Goals
• Home, car, the stuff
• Personal development goals
• Fitness, family, spiritual, making
you better
Goals
• Jim Rohn - Method (modified)
• What do I want in the next 1 to 10 years
• 50 items - quick, no detail, write fast
• What do I want to:
• be
• see
• do
• have
• share All goals on one page
Sort the list
• Label each goal by
• 1 year
• 3 year
• 5 year
• 10 year
Label all goals listed on
one page by timeframe
Sorting the list
• Pick the 4 most important goals from
• 1 year, 3, year, 5 year and 10 year
• Describe in detail each goal
• Be specific, be descriptive
• Explain why for each goal
• Every great goal has a reason -
purpose New pages - 1 goal per page -
top third of page
Goal action items
• List at least three resources you need
for each goal
• Money, person, skills - be specific
• List at least three actions that you
could do today for each goal
• Contact a resource, learn a skill
Add to 1 goal per page
Goals and actions
• 3 Goals per timeframe
• Truly believe in the goal
• The goal inspires you
• You are committed to the goal
• You have at least 3 action items
Into action
• Actions speak louder
than...
• Action dissipates
worry
• Small steps solve
large problems
• Action creates space
for opportunities
Review action items on goal list
Small choices every day
• Everyday brings
opportunity
• Small daily progress
builds self-esteem
• Small daily progress
build long-term
results
• Small successes reap
big rewards, over
time
Remember, people will judge you by your actions, not your
intentions.  You may have a heart of gold - but so does a hard-boiled
egg.

Measure to Manage
• Review goals/actions
every day, week,
month and year
• Measure real
progress for each goal
• Celebrate wins and
completed goals
Don’t be afraid to change
• Revise goals on a
periodic basis
• Make mistakes to
make progress
• Be persistent in
making goals part of
your daily work
Start with the end in
mind
• Work backwards
• Annual goal
• Monthly, weekly,
daily, hourly
• Measure and adjust
often
And now the little stuff
• What constant efforts
are needed to support
your new goals
• What constant
maintenance requires
time and effort
• Make a list to support
each new goal
• Make a list to support
your lifestyle needs Break down efforts required for
each yearly goal by specific time
units
Trapped in
our egos
Treat yourself
like you would
treat your best
friend, or at least
a stranger
Thank You!
