Sand casting is a metal casting process where molten metal is poured into a sand mold cavity and allowed to solidify. There are five basic steps: 1) patternmaking to create a replica of the casting exterior, 2) coremaking to form interior contours using sand cores, 3) molding to pack sand around the pattern and core in a flask mold, 4) melting and pouring the molten metal into the mold, and 5) cleaning to remove sand from the solidified casting.
