SAP OPERATING PROCEDURES IN INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS
1. Quality Management
SAP QM is a key module of SAP ERP and can be used for following
Quality planning
The quality planning define how an item is to be inspected. The plan also establishes how the inspection is
to take place, the item specification(characteristics) to be inspected.
The quality plan is an important part of the Quality Management planning process.
Quality assurance
SAP Quality inspection is performed through inspection lot processing. During this process quality results
are captured, and usage decision is taken to accept or reject the inspection lot.
Quality control
SAP Quality inspection is performed through inspection lot processing. Quality control determine
what action need to be taken as after defects are detected.
2. Three types of quality we required to check on daily basis .
Inward material quality
Inward material like raw material, packing material, chemical at the time of good inward the
material specification is check & assure by qc team as per norms. If material is not ok then with the quality result sheet
material is return to vendor.
In process Quality
When material is in process on Machine that time some amount of sample is collected by Qc
team and check the product quality specification as per norms and inform production team for variation or Ok.
Finish goods quality
When final production done for finished or semi finished material, the Qc team check the material
specification as per norms and record result and inform to production dept.

6. Inspection Types in SAP :
Raw Material Quality :
If you want to check quality for raw material, you has to use inspection type 01(Good
receipt insp. For purchase order). Once GRN is done inspection lot is generated.
In process Quality :
If you want to check quality for in process then you have to use inspection type 03(in process
inspection for production order). Once Order released inspection lot is generated.
Finish Goods Quality :
In you want to check quality for finish goods then you have to use inspection type 04(goods receipt
inspection from production). Once final production confirmation done inspection lot is generated.

8. Master Data Of Quality Management
Master data is data that does not change often and is always needed in the same way by business.
Ex: One time activities like creating Material code, Master inspection characteristic etc.
Following are the list of quality management master data.
o QM view in material master
o Master inspection characteristics(MIC)
o Class & Characteristics
o Sampling Procedure
o Inspection Plan
9. Master inspection characteristics(MIC) :
Master Inspection characteristics are required to describe the inspection specifications for materials like
length, width, viscosity, etc. We create master inspection characteristics at the plant level to simplify and standardize
the inspection planning activities.
The below are the types of Master Inspection characteristics.
o Quantitative
o Qualitative
T_code : QS21/QS23/QS24
10. Class And Characteristics :
A characteristic is a property that serves to describe and differentiate between objects. Examples: length, color, weight, and so on.
Below screenshot is for creation of characteristics using T-code CT04
11. Create Class :
A class groups together similar objects described by the same characteristics.
T_code : CL01/CL02/CL03
12. Sampling Procedure (QDV1):
Sampling procedure in QM is used to determine the size of the inspection lot to be used in
inspection plan under Quality planning.
o Following Screenshot shows how to create sampling procedure(T-CODE –QDV1).
13. Inspection Plan :
Inspection plan is use to capture result of quality records.
You use an inspection plan to define which characteristics are to be inspected in each inspection operation
In the inspection plan, you have to define the sequence of inspection steps to be performed.
Following screenshot shows how to create inspection plan(T-Code –QP01).
15. Inspection Lot Selection(T-Code-QA32) :
An inspection lot within the SAP Quality Management module is a formal request to a plant to examine a specific quantity of materials at
a plant.
16. Result Recording :
Result recording will be done against the inspection lot created at the time of Goods Receipt. All the
characteristics will be shown in the SAP recording screen for input.
17. Usage Decision :
The usage decision for an inspection lot confirms that all physical samples have been valuated and
the inspection has been completed.
