This presentation discusses scales used in photographs. It explains that scale is the ratio of an object's size in a photo to its actual size on the ground. Scale can be expressed through a unit equivalent, representative fraction, or ratio. Knowing the camera focal length and aircraft altitude allows one to determine the scale of a vertical photograph. - 2. Scale of Photograph Scale is the ratio of the size of any object or feature or area within the photo to its actual size (i.e. 1 unit on the photo equals "x" units on the ground). Scale may be expressed three ways: • Unit Equivalent • Representative Fraction • Ratio
- 5. Scale of Vertical Photograph If you know the camera focal length and the flying altitude of the aircraft you can also determine the scale of a photo.
