Enterprise Scalr
Hybrid Cloud Management Platform
OVERVIEW
Scalr’s Enterprise Grade Cloud Management Platform is designed for
enterprises deploying public and private cloud infrastructure at global
scale. Our Organizational Model allows for highly efficient policy and role
based controls for security and cost management, while delivering
localized autonomy and maximum productivity for IT teams. The resulting
‘Federation of IT’ is core to Scalr’s product design mission.
“Scalr is the only tool I know of that multiple businesses voluntarily signed up to use. Usually
they will shy away from any Corporate offering; it is a testament to what an amazing tool you
and your team have built. It was truly a pleasure working with the Scalr team and building out
the offering.”

IT teams gain autonomy and operational flexibility while maintaining corporate compliance and cloud best
practices
ENTERPRISE SCALR
CENTRAL IT
Central IT can enforce
compliance policies on OS
compatibility, Image
management, security, cost,
workload placement, and
quotas.
BUSINESS UNIT
Each BU/Department is
empowered to set additional
policies that align with their best
practices (i.e. lease management,
encryption, region, VPC/Subnet,
Security Groups, instance types
and more)
TEAMS
Teams enjoy improved productivity
with customized self-service and
considerable autonomy to deploy
and manage apps and
infrastructure within policy
boundaries.
Corporate
The Scalr Organizational Model
The Scalr Organizational Model
combines proactive and reactive policies
with a hierarchy that maps to your
organization's structure, making policy
enforcement easier and reports more
actionable.
Policies enforced at higher scopes are
inherited by the lower ones, greatly
reducing management overhead.
Other Cloud Management Solutions
provide a flat structure where all policies
are applied at the application layer,
which is inefficient to manage and does
not scale. Updates and changes, which
Gartner says takes up 90% of IT
operations effort, become intolerable.

Differentiated Self-Service
Self Service should not be limited to one type
of user. Scalr’s policy engine and role based
access controls (RBAC) allow administrators
to grant all users customized access to the
resources and controls needed for them to be
productive in their jobs.
Scalr provides a Service Catalog, Power
Console, and API, all with policy guardrails in
place. This allows users to not have to worry
about compliance or corporate policies and
focus on the things that matter to them.
Other solutions provide guardrails only on
basic user requests (Service Catalog). All
other requests either need to be supported as
one-off requests or subject to approvals or
Ops team fulfillment. This creates a lot of
operational overhead which results in a
massive productivity hit.

Power Console
The Power Console is an advanced provisioning method for users who value operational flexibility. Within
policy guardrails, Power Users and Administrators can edit their application stacks, link their applications to
cloud services, configure automation and auto-scaling rules, and more. Advanced users get the autonomy they
need to move fast, while workloads inherit the policies set at higher management scopes.
Through the Power Console,
admins and advanced users can:
• Manage resources such as
images, storage, networks
• Set application lifecycle
policies
• Monitor workload health and
usage
• Build applications and
package them as items on
the Service Catalog
Service Catalog
The Service Catalog is a simple provisioning method for users who value ease of use. Each catalog item can
represent anything from a single machine or container, to a full application stack, complete with automation,
scaling and cloud services. Admins can determine to what level they want to abstract complexity from the user,
and what policies are enforced.
The Service catalog is the easiest way for users to quickly get what they need, while all required standards are
maintained.
Policy Engine
The Scalr Policy Engine creates conditional policy
guardrails around placement, security, access and
resource usage. Scalr Policies adhere to The
Organizational Model, which means admins can
configure a policy at a higher scope of management,
and enforce it on all relevant cloud environments.
The Policy Engine centralizes policy definition and
enforcement, and reduces management overhead.
Admins can create policy profiles that cover security
groups, tagging, instance types, container
permissions, networks, and more.
Policy Profiles can then be enforced on environments
that serve all types of users.
Enable Innovation with Cloud Services
Let developers innovate and take advantage of cloud services as
the Cloud Platforms make them available. Scalr’s Cloud Service
Gateway provides approved user access to requested cloud
services while giving administrators the ability to track and
manage usage.
Native Cloud Services logically integrate with Scalr applications
and are heavily adopted by our customers. These are services
that map to applications and are tightly integrated within the Scalr
UI (i.e. ELB, ALB, RDS, S3 EMR, EFS and more).
The Cloud Services Gateway (CSG) enables access control, policy,
and analytics for all other Cloud Services. It acts as a proxy
between the user and the cloud platform, giving admins the
control they need while developers enjoy a native API experience.
Other solutions limit users to the services integrated into the
platform, or offer costly professional services packages to build
one-off custom integrations, which present other concerns like
the handling of API keys.
Reduce Costs and Increase Visibility
Enterprises need fine-grained control and visibility into
cloud spend to responsibly budget, forecast, manage
and chargeback based on cost centers, business units,
projects, applications and users.
Scalr provides extensive financial reports that adhere to
The Organizational Model. Admins are able to assign
and display expenses in the hierarchy that makes sense
for the organization.
Cost Control is more than reporting. Scalr policies are
part of the provisioning workflow and prevent
overspend, communicate prices and budgets to users,
alert managers and reclaim resources when necessary.
