- 2. Filters are necessary in schools to keep students from seeing inappropriate material.
- 3. Much of the material filters block could be characterized as "adult entertainment." Schools would be remiss if they permitted minors to access material which they are not legally permitted to view.
- 4. Fliters Filtering is necessary because access to internet sites should differ for different ages and grade levels. Problems can be avoided mostly by having students log into a computer before using. By logging in, an administrator can view which sites they are viewing, making children less likely to use the internet incorrectly. LL

Watch what we filter There are many occasions when a student goes to use a website that has information on it that is valid and can help out their assignment, but it has been blocked because the filter thought it wasn't useful or it was "bad" You can also run into this problem when you are presenting in front of a class, when something doesn't come up, make sure to ask someone about the problem and why it was blocked. So when deciding what to block, make sure that everyone is on the same page. -Caitlin
- 7. It would be impossible for teachers to check all students for viewing inappropriate or pornographic material while using their laptops, or are at a computer. If their were no filters, the teacher would be the filter and there would be no time to teach!

Filtering Prevents students from playing games, using online chatting websites, and allows for teachers to know that they are paying attention and doing what they are supposed to without the temptations of these websites. It will also prevent children from buying things online or giving out personal information to get prizes after playing games. - 9. It is important to keep sites with violent content or pornographic pictures out of the students reach at school. This content is detrimental to the learning of students. The main issue with filters is that they either filter too much or they do not filter enough. - 10. Filters not only protect students from viewing inappropriate material. According to the the American Association of School Librarians, through "outgoing filtering" sending personal information such as birthdays, home addresses, and phone numbers can be restricted. Ultimately, this can protect the students from identity theft and sexual predators. Although, some parents may take a stand against filters because they want their children to "grow and experience the world", it is extremely doubtful that those same parents want the world to experience their children. ~Kylie
- 11. Filtering should be put in place to keep the kinds of material that promotes school violence out. Exaggerated clips endangering young people's lives, violent video games, and instructions for makeshift weapons should not be accessible. Though students should be taught from an early age that things like these are inappropriate, and that viewing such material can result in unwanted consequences with school administration, or can lead to dangerous violent accidents within a school. -Julie
- 12. Filtering Besides keeping violence and pornography away from children filtering the internet in schools saves time. If students can not access their facebook, aim, or favorite game sites they are less likely to be distracted while using the internet and get to their assignments. Though at the high school level many students can get past the block on many of these websites it will still stop some students by it simply being there and at the younger grades students will not be able to get around such blocks. -Heather
- 13. Filtering - Nancy M. Davis. "Unfiltered access is like the teacher saying, 'Take this pornographic magazine to the principal's office, but don't look at it on the way down.' " Davis said. "Well, you know the child is going to look at it. And who do you hold responsible? The child for looking at it or the school for providing it?" -"Boys will be Boys" - This point was brought up after some boys in Floridia were caught looking up pornography on the internet. While kids should be responsible for their own behavior we should try to stop as much of the undesirable behavior before it happens, filtering is a good way to do this.
