ALSF School Programs and Fundraisers
- 1. Alexandra “Alex” Scott 1/18/96 – 8/1/04 Alex was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a type of childhood cancer, before her 1st birthday. When she was 4, she decided to hold a lemonade stand to give the money to her doctors. She raised $2,000 in her own front yard from neighbors and local supporters. She then set a goal to raise $1 million and wasn’t going to stop until she hit that goal.
- 2. By the time she was 8 years old, through hard work and determination, she was able to meet her $1 million goal! Sadly, she passed away two weeks after reaching her goal. To honor Alex and her legacy, her parents and supporters across the country are helping to carry out her mission. We’ve now raised $100 million through lemonade stands, special events and our sponsors!
- 3. Where does the money go? Research Grants We’ve funded 475 research projects at over 100 institutions across the US. 4 of which are here in Boston. Travel Fund We provide gas cards, lodging, flights, help with groceries and more so that the child can receive the treatment they need. SuperSibs! Program A program dedicated to comforting, encouraging, and empowering siblings during the family’s battle against childhood cancer.
- 4. We provide resources to teachers educating them on how to talk about cancer with their students
- 5. Your classroom can hold an Alex’s Lemonade Stand… • Register online to receive a Lemonade Stand Kit with all materials you’ll need for your fundraiser • Receive lesson plans to integrate into the curriculum • ALSF School Programs Manager will be available to answer questions, provide resources, and more

- 7. Change Childhood Cancer Program (K-2, grades 3-5 and 6-8)
- 8. • Students each receive their own change box • Teacher receives a copy of our book, “Alex and the Amazing Lemonade Stand” • Lesson plans and activities are provided to the teacher to integrate Change Childhood Cancer into their curriculum
- 10. • Teachers receive paper lemon PDF for students to cut out • Sample letter is provided for teachers to send home with students explaining how families and the community can get involved by helping the class reach their fundraising goal
- 11. A Penny War is a fundraising game where the object is to get as many points as possible during the “war” by putting coins into a container. The teacher (or team/classroom) with the highest dollar total at the end wins! - 12. Your library can receive our book, “Alex and the Amazing Lemonade Stand,” for free when you register online
- 13. Get creative! Many schools come up with their own unique way to get their students involved with ALSF. Teachers can work closely with ALSF’s School Programs Manager to find a way to best suit your school.
