Gay males are 6 times more likely to make an attempt then heterosexual males.Lesbians are more than twice as likely to try committing suicide than the heterosexual women in studies. A majority of the suicide attempts by homosexuals take place at age 20 or younger with nearly one-third occurring before age 17.One-third (33.2%) of transgender youth have attempted suicide.

On October 8th, 2010 the New York Times ran a story about a 16 year old, four 17 year olds, a 21, 22 and 23 year old going under the name the “Latin King Goonies” luring a 30 year old gay man to an abandoned house. Before the older man got there they targeted two other 17 year olds, beating them and torturing them for being gay. When the older man got there the nine boys tied him up and tortured him through the night. They beat him and burned various parts of his body. The victims names have not been released. Two of the attackers haven’t been found.
