Gartner predicts that 50% of enterprises will adopt hybrid cloud by 2017 to meet business needs for continuity, expansion, and innovation. The Open Network Foundation defines key aspects of next-generation hybrid clouds like workload migration, replication between clouds, and dynamic network capacity provisioning. However, networks may not be ready for this hybrid model as they need to be cloud-ready with elastic, automated consumption-based capabilities to avoid over-provisioning costs or under-provisioning losses. SDN provides intelligent workload mobility between clouds through an SDN controller that can automate QoS policies during migration and dynamically provision virtual switches and data paths for an elastic, isolated control and data plane to enable DevOps for networks.
