Self evaluation memo
- 1. English 2311 Self Evaluation By: Tanner Hodge
- 2. At the first of the semester we learned how to communicate well with current and or future employers. It was something I have been wanting to learn effectively. I can definitely say that English 2311 has prepared me for my future in my professional career. I have learned how to effectively write a resume and organize one in the process. Cover letters were another thing that stressed me out. If someone had asked me to write one before this class I could not tell you where to even start, but with this class I have effectively learned how to write a professional cover letter.
- 3. This semester I was also taught how to write a formal proposal. I had never seen one before except the ones my dad has written. To actually learn how to write one pertaining to certain circumstances was a eye opener which prepared me to where I can effectively write a formal proposal and know how to format one.
- 4. When it comes to creating documents for certain projects I have ever decided to take on, I never had a lot of documents to support my claims on why to use that project. In English 2311 I learned how to use documents professionally to support these projects. I learned how to create multi-modal instructions and even culture revision memos. I never took into consideration that other cultures mattered also. When creating our project for English 2311, a culture memo was something was needed especially for the project we were undertaking. It definitely does matter how certain projects would fit into other cultures and effectively into cultures especially with different languages and currencies.
- 5. When we tested our projects we conducted usability test. Usability test are used to determine how well and easy a project is to use to its future users. It was something that did not seem like a big deal to me beforehand. But after conducting the usability test I realized that it was a test that is most certainly needed. There were a lot of things in our project that we changed do to the usability test and how the user reacted to our project. This semester we also learned how to write a progress report and how to professionally write an update for a project you are undertaking at the moment.
- 6. Putting together and using a visual aid in the correct way was something I had also never done before taking English 2311. It showed me that visual aids our to guide the audience and not be boring. They are to catch the eye of the audience also. When we made our visual aid for out project we just had pictures of each slide you would encounter in our application we made. Putting together the application was more difficult than it sounded. It took weeks in the making to make it to the final project so we could present it to the class.
- 7. Creating this SlideDoc has taught me and reviewed me on everything I have actually learned this semester. I have learned that a SlideDoc is not easy to make considering it took me around 2 hours to actually figure out that a make it in PowerPoint and then upload it to SlideShare. But it has taught me a lot with how to professionally make a presentation that needs to be more of a document.
- 8. Coming into this class I was not excited and thought it would be another English class but I was wrong, this class is something that I needed especially with graduation approaching for me in May. It taught me all the professional aspects of writing and preparing documents in a professional way. I know now that I can write a professional document and not be embarrassed to send a document to my colleague’s at my future job. I’m very happy with this class and had a great semester taking it.
