Hope to address the above issues through: Ordering stage - reduce duplication at ordering stage & assign correct location at the first place (Ref10) Receiving stage - check the location again for standard (Ref10) Cataloging stage – assign the correct call no . (local practice) make sure that all bib records of standards have “Standards” as subject . make sure item gets sent to the right place (Ref 10)

CL Standards Collection What The Standards Collection in the NUS Central Library consists of: Singapore Standards and International Standards such as ASTM, IEEE, ACI, ANSI, ASME, API, ISO, IEC and BS for multi-disciplines including Engineering, Building, Medicine and Science. Where There are 3 types of standards formats: Print format : can be found in Ref 10, Reference & Information Services Dept ( cannot be loaned out). Therefore patrons should use the standards inside Reference only. CD-ROMs / E-version : can be only used in the PC which is located in the Infocomm. (CD-R1 ) Online subscription : available online through library portal. How Processing of standards involves: Purchasing & cataloguing of standards , like any other resources, are processed centrally in AM ; and physical processing by L&M Once available, the standards will be sent to Information Services Dept (IS) staff for shelving in Ref 10. Before the shelving, IS staff would also be responsible for informing the requestor about the availability of the standards and keep for them for 5 days .

They are written through a formal prescribed process which involves consultation with relevant bodies and reaching consensus across all interested parties so that the final document meets the needs of business and society

It is often used to formalize the technical aspects of a procurement agreement or contract. For example, there may be a specification for a turbine blade for a jet engine which defines the exact material and performance requirements. A standard test method describes a definitive procedure which produces a test result. It may involve making a careful personal observation or conducting a highly technical measurement. For example, a physical property of a material is often affected by the precise method of testing: any reference to the property should therefore reference the test method used. A standard practice or procedure gives a set of instructions for performing operations or functions. For example, there are detailed standard operating procedures for operation of a nuclear power plant. A standard guide is general information or options which do not require a specific course of action. A standard definition is formally established terminology. Standard units , in physics and applied mathematics, are commonly accepted measurements of physical quantities.
