Outline of Presentation
 Integrated Mental Health and
    Wellbeing Strategy
 How environmental and greenspace
    activities support commitment to
    change areas
 Reflections on day
The World Health Organisation describes
mental health as:

“a state of well-being in which the individual realises
his or her abilities, can cope with the normal stresses
of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is
able to make a contribution to his or her
community”.

It includes concepts such as resilience, a
sense of mastery and control, optimism
and hope as well as our ability to initiate
and sustain relationships and to play a
part in our social world. (Barry and Jenkins,
2007)
What is Mental Health Improvement?

     • prevent mental health problems
     • improve quality of life for people with a mental illness

Editor's Notes

  • #4: One key message…mental health means different things to everyone. The simple thing is that mental health underpins everything that we are, say and do. Focus about MH in broadest sense
  • #7: Access to nature can sig increase MH and wellbeing
  • #8: Maximising impact applying to GEP for funding for signage and good quality maps
  • #9: GEP national partnership SNH, FC and H Scot established The overarching purpose of the Partnership is to promote better health and quality of life for people in Scotland through greater use of the outdoors for physical activity and contact with nature. Internal group within Lothian looking at Greening NHS Estate In or near an area of deprivation Need to take account of these groups and address risk factors Access to/for the local community Depending on the scope of development, sites that have longevity of NHS ownership/management Priority will be given to developing sites that are located in areas where there is a lack of available community/accessible green space
