- #19: PBI Solanum : A worldwide treatment was tasked with producing a global monograph of Solanum . Effectively taking the genus Solanum and describing it, by describing groups within it and groups within those, which are in turn described by describing the species themselves, based funnily enough of descriptions of specimen objects collected from living plants Weapon of choice Microsoft Word Take Solanum section Geminata . Produced in the late 1990’s and published in 2002 written entirely in Microsoft Word, from keys to names lists to natural language descriptions and even lists of the specimens examined (and yes… that is as scary as it sounds…) But the same goes for a number of other Solanum treatments in existence, researchers are using Microsoft Word as a matter of course to generate material for publication, and I am fairly certain that many researchers would be extremely reluctant to stop using it unless the alternative is as easy to use and helps them achieve publication which unfortunately is often the only measure of their efforts.
