The Journey
 Ashray Akruti is a registered non-profit, non-religious organization working for Hearing
Impaired Children
 Started with just five children in 1996
 Now caters to more than 550 children with disabilities across Telangana and Andhra
Pradesh.
 More than 270 hearing-impaired children have been integrated into mainstream schools,
colleges and Universities.

Skill Development
Aim: To provide training in sign language to address the scarcity
of sign language interpreters in the country and also provide
opportunities for employment.
Objective:
 To Bridge the communication gap between Deaf employees
and the staff.
 To build better relationship with deaf people.
 To create job opportunities as interpreters.
 To develop professionals in the Disability sector.

What is Sign Language?

Development of Sign Language in different countries
In fact, there are somewhere between 138 and 300 different types of sign language used throughout the world today.

 Why do some of us learn German? Or Japanese? French? To converse
with those who speak those languages.
 Why then isn't it necessary to learn to converse with the deaf?
 They are not less intelligent than us. They just don't always speak the
same language as we do. There is a need to educate and employ deaf
persons...mainstream them in every sense of the word.
 Wouldn't it be lovely to see children with HI playing with hearing kids in
a park and having no trouble communicating?
It happens in most developed countries, why not ours?
Why must we all learn to sign?

Who MUST learn to sign? [we believe everybody should]
 People who work with children who have learning or speech related
issues with or without deafness.
 Teachers from schools for deaf children.
 Teachers in inclusive schools
 People in the service industry, armed forces, legal, medical,
entertainment fields...

Eligibility criterion:
Any candidate who satisfies the below criteria's is eligible for admission into
the course:
a) Senior Secondary (10+2)/equivalent with minimum 50% marks
b) Should possess Normal range Hearing capacity
c) Fluency in at least one of the languages (i.e., English, Hindi or Telugu)
d) Functional hands
Intake capacity:
 100 students will be trained in a duration of one year.
 Total four batches consisting 25 students per batch will be
trained for three months each.
