Signaling and protocol management
Terms Explanation
• Signaling transport management: Signaling transport management system is a
common signaling bearer system, which provides the signaling transmission
service for SoftX3000. It includes MTP (MTP3), SIGTRAN (SCTP, M2UA,
M3UA, IUA and V5UA ), SCCP and TCAP protocols.
• MTP3 (Message Transfer Part Level 3): MTP3 is the network layer of SS7 and
provides signaling bearer for ISUP, TUP and SCCP in SoftX3000.
• SIGTRAN (Signaling Transport): It supports Switched Circuit Network (SCN)
signaling protocol delivery from an SS7/ISDN/AN Signaling Gateway (SG) to a
Media Gateway Controller (MGC) or IP-resident Database as described in the
Framework Architecture for Signaling Transport
• SCTP (Stream Control Transport Protocol): It provides real-time, reliable
connection-oriented data packet service. In SoftX3000, it provides
signaling bearer for M3UA, M2UA, IUA, and V5UA.
• M2UA (SS7 MTP2 User Adaptation Layer): It provides primitive
communications services for the MTP3 in IP network and the MTP2 on
the edge of the network (on MG or SG) to realize the interworking
between TDM SS7 and IP. In SoftX3000, the user of M2UA is MTP3.
• M3UA (SS7 MTP3 User Adaptation Layer): It provides primitive
communications services for MTP3 user in IP network and MTP3 on the
edge of the network (on SG) to realize interworking between TDM SS7
and IP. Meanwhile, it also provides end-to-end communications services
for two MTP3 users in IP network to realize signaling interworking in IP
core network. In SoftX3000, it provides signaling bearer for ISUP, TUP,
and SCCP.
• IUA (ISDN Q.921 User Adaptation Layer): It provides primitive
communications services for the Q.931 in IP network and the Q.921 on the
edge of the network (on MG or SG) to realize the interworking
between ISDN and IP. In SoftX3000, the user of IUA is Q.931.
• V5UA (V5.2 User Adaptation Layer): It provides primitive
communications services for the V5.2 in IP network and the LAPV5 on
the edge of the network (on MG or SG) to realize the interworking
between Access Network (AN) and IP. In SoftX3000, the user of V5UA is
V5.2.
• SCCP (Signaling Connection Control Part): It provides additional functions to the
Message Transfer Part (MTP/MTP3B/M3UA) to cater for both connectionless as
well as connection-oriented network services to transfer circuit related and non-
circuit related signaling information and other types of information between
exchanges and specialized centers in telecommunication networks through
Signaling System No. 7 network.
• TCAP (Transaction Capabilities Application Part): It refers to a set of
communication capabilities that provide an interface between applications and a
network layer service. The TCAP is used to provide the means for the transfer of
information between nodes, and to provide generic services to a large variety of
applications distributed over switches and specialized centers in
telecommunication networks, while being independent of any of these
applications.
Function Description
In SoftX3000 product, signaling transport management is a common module and it
provides signaling transport service for other sub-system, such as ISUP, PRA, V5APP,
TUP and INAP. Signaling transport management system include the following protocols:
MTP2, MTP3, SCTP, M2UA, M3UA, IUA, V5UA, SCCP and TCAP. It is distributed on
two processing cards: Fixed Call Control Unit (FCCU/FCSU) and Broadband Signaling
Gateway (BSGI).
1. Data configuration function: It includes the features of adding data, deleting data
and modifying data.
2. Maintenance function: It includes the features of activating link, deactivating link,
inhibiting link, and uninhibiting link.
3. Test function: It includes the features of querying software version, sending
pseudo message and other test functions.
