 We have decided to ride on the existing idea of “the Earth Hour” and get the whole school to
 participate in our project. For that week, every class would switch off their lights or fans for one hour,
 depending on the weather.

 After this project is completed, we were very surprised to see that some classes continued with the
 practice of switching off the lights or fans when the weather permits. This was really encouraging as it
 shows that this project has indeed created an impact in their lives. The number of classes that have
 forgotten to switch their lights and fans off after leaving their classrooms have decreased drastically as
 well. We feel that the actions by our school mates have proven that they are more aware of the
 impact they can create to the environment..
After making school-wide announcement for a week, we have become more confident. This project has
affirmed our beliefs that we do can create a positive impact on the conservation of our environment, no
matter how insiginificant our action may seem. We are also proud that we have played our part in
helping to promote our school’s niche area – environment education.

What was the total impact of the project ; how much electricity was saved?
5486.555 Kwh, which translates to $11568.57 worth of savings from July to August.

How many hours were spend volunteering for the project?
About 15 hours (inclusive of the time they took to prepare the presentation).

Any other measurement tool that you have to show effectiveness of the project?
The group plans to carry out an interview as well as an on-line survey with both the teachers and pupils
after the Sept hols. This will also enable the group ample time to receive the next set of utility bills for
better comparison.
