Research and Planning
•

•

From my prelim task I’ve learned that planning and research is everything and has
such a massive impact on the work. Researching is a key part of making a film
because having the knowledge of your genre and films of the sort allows you to
plan the film to be quite similar to them having the same conventions so that
they’re more professional.
Planning is possibly one of the biggest parts of making a film because planning the
film so you know what you are going to do from the story behind your film to shots
to costumes, actors, locations and everything which makes the product look more
professional with more planning because with minimal planning they don’t look
very good as you can tell that it hasn’t been thought through properly and that it is
fairly improvised.
Construction
My construction skills developed massively from my prelim to my final product
because my construction was poor during my prelim but after practicing the
construction of my product became considerably better. For construction is used
Finalcut Express and this was a new editing software to me so I didn’t know exactly
how to use it but as it came to my final product I had had practice and I knew how to
cut sections add text effects music and more and I also learned as to what goes well
where such as titles and logos being added to my film.
Holding a steady shot

• Holding a steady shot proved to be difficult so I did use the
tripod as much as possible but when I didn’t use it I managed
to keep my hands pretty still allowing the shot to be quite
steady as if it wasn’t it would have ruined the shot quite
considerably.
Sound and Location
•

When it came to making my film sound was going to be a big part but I didn’t take
into consideration the wind and the effect on my film that It would have and
because my prelim was done inside I didn’t learn from any mistakes until it was too
late so that was my fault but I also learned that music was also important to films
as well and it saved my final product the use of music or else it would have been a
terrible wind sound throughout.

•

The location also proved important and I learned from my prelim that chosing the
right location is key for the film so it looks good and fits as well but also in terms of
sound so that I could take precautions although I didn’t as I didn’t expect for the
wind to pick up (as on the morning the air was still) It’s still key.
Actors
•

From prelim to final product I learnt that picking the right actors was very
important as I wanted people who would work and not mess around so not just
friends because when with friends there is more of a chance that I was going to
mess around. The actor I chose was a friend but he was reliable and wouldn’t mess
around because of the importance of making the film. Although there were a few
occasions off camera that we did mess around I still got all the footage I needed
although not all of what I wanted I got my key ideas on camera.
