HANDLING EDITION
P&ID INTEGRATION
Integration between Smart 3D and SmartPlant P&ID has been greatly enhanced
in the new version, promoting better quality and higher productivity. With the new
version of Smart 3D, it is possible to partition a single P&ID pipe run or pipeline into
many physical pipe runs or pipelines in the Smart 3D realm and still maintain consis-
tency between all of the entities through the “One to Many Correlation” functionality.
In addition, the designer has granular control to turn off the propagation of desired
properties from SmartPlant P&ID to Smart 3D using the “Selective Property Update”
feature. If minor inconsistencies exist between the P&ID and the 3D model, they
can be accepted with the “Approve Correlation Inconsistencies” feature. Plus, the
“Automatic Correlation” functionality has been upgraded. User-configurable rules and
the topologies of the P&ID and 3D pipe runs help you achieve a higher degree of cor-
relation between the P&ID and 3D domains.
3D INTEROP
Smart 3D continues to bolster its ability to bring external 3D data into projects
through enhancements to its powerful 3D Interop functionality. Integrating the proven
SmartPlant Review engine, this technology continues to expand its support for a wide
array of 3D formats, including multiple versions of SmartMarine and SmartPlant 3D,
PDS®
3D, PDMS, SAT, MicroStation, and AutoCAD®
.
New features in 3D Interop include the ability to clash externally generated 3D data-
sets against one another in a single project. With this capability, datasets generated
from multiple sites can be checked for interferences against one another in a single
Smart 3D project. The latest version of Smart 3D also offers the ability to create and
persist intelligent connections to referenced datasets. For example, designers can
connect piping to equipment nozzles referenced from another 3D application so that
the proper bolt sets and gaskets are assigned and reported via the appropriate MTO
deliverables.
DELIVERABLES
The latest release offers improvements for generating project deliverables. Copy,
move, and rotate views to speed up and simplify drawing composition and edits.
Automatically display equipment centerlines to improve productivity.
Take advantage of integration with Intergraph Batch Services for greater control and
flexibility when submitting batch jobs. The batch server does not need to be logged in
and the updating account does not need to be the administrator. MicroStation is no
longer needed for batch processing, and the batch server is not restricted to a single

Document revision improvements help users create custom revision
marks to meet company and client standards. You can delete and
bulk-edit revision records to improve productivity.
OFFSHORE
Smart 3D continues to extend its 3D modeling capabilities to address
the needs of the offshore design and fabrication industry. Specialized
Advanced Plate Systems (APS) can quickly and efficiently be created
or modified to model complex nodal connections composed of ring
plates, continuity plates, base plates, transition plates, cap plates,
and more. Shape and position are driven topologically by one or more
supporting members and a set of governing dimensional param-
eters. Should the supporting members or parameters be modified in
subsequent design operations, the advanced plates are automatically
updated to reflect the changes. A rich set of APS macros are delivered
with the out-of-the-box catalog, enabling new customers to get up
to speed quickly with lower upfront implementation costs and shorter
implementation schedules. This content can also serve as the basis
for developing new content to address business-specific standards, if
needed.
Other enhancements have been aimed at enabling these Advanced
Plates to be inserted into the flanges and/or webs of designed mem-
bers, face plates reinforcing the edges of plates, and the flanges and/
or webs of standard, rolled members. These operations result in the
creation of the proper geometry shape and the connections between
the various structural objects so that features and welds are automati-
cally created when the structural objects are detailed. Deliverable data
such as drawings and reports and manufacturing output to drive shop-
floor automation and robotic work cells are supported and generated
automatically from the 3D model.
New upgrades enable endcuts to be applied to the various configura-
tions of member-to-member connections, typical in offshore projects.
The underlying architectural framework was re-factored so that the sys-
tem can apply the same endcuts designed, implemented, and delivered
for shipbuilding stiffeners to be applied to topside members. Maximize
content reuse and reduce implementation costs and schedules.
SMARTPLANT 3D MATERIALS HANDLING EDITION
The latest release of SmartPlant 3D Materials Handling Edition
offers many new functionalities. There are updates to chute plate
work for full detailing. Users can create a chute assembly as a
single plate system. Using the split command, they can then split
the single plate into real-life fabrication sections. Take advantage of
the capability to bound plate work using single plate and refer-
ence line. Industry updates to profile end treatment cover flat plate,
angle, C section, and Z section.
The software offers enhanced fastener placement. Through a
simple form interface, chute flanges can be selected for layout of
bolt hole penetration. Supplied reports detail the type of bolt and
quantities for MTO reporting.
With conveyor layout, updates to the chute shapes capability
enable conveyor layout to any angle. Additional placement points
promote curve truss and gantry placement. There are also updates
to the internal 2D workflow.
The new profile and data drawing template enables users to update
bills of materials to reflect their company standards. Plus, take
advantage of enhanced CIS/2 output. Chute profiles and flanges
are exported to the detailing package through the CIS/2 standard
interface.
SMART 3D BUNDLE LICENSING
Smart 3D bundle licensing is now available. You can choose to
run SmartPlant 3D, SmartMarine 3D, or SmartPlant 3D Materials
Handling Edition on SQL server. Take advantage of the benefits of
Smart 3D bundle licensing, such as:
•	Reduced administrative costs.
•	Additional features for the plant market by running the
marine product.
•	Built-up members.
•	Construction management.
