This document discusses split cord malformations, including diastematomyelia and diplomyelia. It presents the case of a 73-year-old woman with left lower back pain and weakness who was found to have left L5 radiculopathy and foraminal stenosis. It also provides background on Charles Prosper Ollivier d'Angers, the 19th century French officer and researcher who coined the term syringomyelia and studied spinal cord malformations. Finally, it includes diagrams of different types of spinal lesions seen in spina bifida conditions, including diastematomyelia which can be associated with hypertrichosis.
