PROJECT AND CASE EXAMPLES
2004 -
● IOI (“I’m On It”) - Realtime, glanceable informatics system using
PHP/XML/Flash to overlay help button pages from classroom
touchpanels to a map of the campus. Allowed the central support
office to coordinate assistance and avoid duplicating work.
● EIDOLON - Volumetric holographic 3D videoconferencing
prototype using a transparent projection surface (LaserMagic’s
TransScreen) and dual polarized DLP projectors to display far-end
footage from a Polycom endpoint. Backlit depth cues behind
screen reduced headaches associated with simulator sickness.
2006 -
● Full refit of Johns Hopkins Board of Trustees conference room
microphone system with RF shielded (AudioTechnica
UniPoint/UniGuard) to eliminate GSM click interference during
meetings.
2007 -
● GRABR - Generic Realtime Academic Broadcast Recorder -
Inexpensive off-the-shelf system to record lectures. Used
Wirecast and FireWire hub to mix live video with powerpoint
materials. Intended to be a cheap alternative to Mediasite.
2010 -
● Designed and built digital recording system for drug session room
at the Behavioral Pharmacological Research Unit at Johns
Hopkins Bayview. Client needed high sensitivity microphone
array to pick up whispers during controlled psychedelic drug
experiences. System included HIPPA-compliant secure recording
platform and 4-channel mic mixer.
2011 -
● Designed multipoint video distribution system for the
Undergraduate Neuroscience Teaching Lab. Requirements
included full-duplex video from student microscopy workstations
to central instructor hub, lecture capture integration, and ability
for instructor to take command of any workstation in room.
● Built mobile Mediasite recording system based on Ergotron
Styleview Medical cart.
● Supervised HD upgrade to Hodson Distance Education Facility.
Configured Sony EVI-H100S cameras to provide video sources to
both Polycom HDX 9000 and Mediasite RL systems.
2012 -
● Spearheaded Panopto lecture capture pilot program and
subsequent campus-wide adoption. Integrated product with LMS
(Blackboard) using API building block and was primary
point-of-contact for all related issues and SLA-level support.
Wrote technical documentation, conducted training, tested
hardware configurations.
2015 -
● Producer for Institute for Computational Medicine (ICM) Lecture
series.
● Produced live program and accompanying video feed for Hopkins
Digital Initiatives Speaker series featuring Michal Falk, Dr Charles
Lind, and Musician/Artist Thomas Dolby.
AVI-SPL - AV Tech - Columbia, MD
June 2001-Sept-2001 (Summer job)
● Delivery and setup of video projectors, fast-fold projection
screens, audio distribution trunks, microphones, lighting trusses,
etc.
● Assisted with rack installations as needed
● Served as a production assistant during live corporate events
