Science Department Information for start-up 2010

Just a few notes for start of year housekeeping.
Welcome to Bryony who is based in E6 and has the initials LVR

Year 9
   • 9001 and 9006 are the top classes (MAX and HCK)
   • 9005 and 9010 are the bottom classes (LVR and HCK)
   • The planner in the scheme handed out at the end of the year is what 9001 and
9006 will be following. The rest do not have to follow this order, however the
content has been reduced so we should be able to cover everything this year!
   • Tests are still being written but will hopefully be in the filing cabinet in time.
Please check the cabinet and let me know if the test isn’t there at least a week
before you plan to give it so I’ve got time to sort it out.
   • Workbooks are in Megan’s room. More to come on when to hand them out.
They were paid for with the stationary we just need the info on who’s paid –
       coming Friday I hope

Year 10
   • 1001 and 1005 are the top classes (DFF and LVR). They will be doing internal
in bio (research on Healthy start to life), chem. and phys (practicals).
   • 1004 and 1009 are the bottom classes (DFF and WST)
   • The planner in the scheme is a guide once again however…….
   • Every class in year 10 needs to do the Healthy start to life unit. We will have
training on this from Jacquie (Liggins Institute teacher), who has provided all
the resources. More on this to come once we get closer to the time. This is a
pilot program that we were lucky enough to be selected for. Work will be
differentiated so it will hopefully be able to be done by 04 and 09. the two top
classes will be going to Liggins on a field trip (can’t take everyone!!)
   • Workbooks are still being printed and a letter for parents will be available
from workroom. They have been promised for this term but the publishers still
won’t put a date on it.
   • Crash Roadshow coming thurs 24 June

01SCC
   • DDY/LVR, WRN, WST
   • Workbook available once paid for – please give out letter to parents ASAP

01SCI
   • DDY, HCK, LVR, MAX
   • Please give out letter to parents about workbooks ASAP. Don’t hand out till
      you’ve got their receipt please.
   • End of topic tests will be Exams for U 2008 , mid year exams will be E4U
2009 and we will buy E4U2010 for the final exams. Please don’t use these for
      revision.
   • Course handout in workroom. Please take enough for your class and let me
know when they are getting low.
   • Planner at the back. Please follow it so we don’t have to make up a separate
      exam in midyear.
• Physics we will split due to availability of electricity equipment – to be
        negotiated term 3!
   • Any problems see HCK

01SCE
   • MNS and DDY
   • Workbooks are still on their way but please give out letter to parents ASAP
anyway. Megan will let you know when they are here.

There will be a fair amount of teaching going on in D1 this year, and DDY is also
very mobile – there just aren’t enough labs anymore. Because of this we will need to
be more aware of how we use Megan and try to give her more preparation time. Using
kids to do the heavy lifting would be appreciated!!

We are also looking into new textbooks that incorporate more on the “new”
curriculum so this will come up in a meeting soon.

Good luck and keep up the good work. We had a great year last year and the results
were good (more from Westy on this), so keep on with the literacy stuff and using the
technology and self directed learning wherever you can.

Linda
