Startup Pirates began in 2011 as an idea to support entrepreneurs and has since grown to become a global accelerator program. It runs intensive one-week programs in cities around the world to help early-stage startups launch through workshops, mentoring, and community building. Since starting, Startup Pirates has supported over 950 participants from 80 startups across 29 cities and 17 countries. The program connects entrepreneurs, helps startups raise funding, and has led to the creation of over 190 jobs. Organizers in different cities plan local programs with support from Startup Pirates' global network of mentors, speakers, and resources.

- 2. HOW DID IT START In the beginning of 2011 Startup Pirates was taking the first steps. It took 4 long months to go from an idea to a project… After lots of changings, learnings, discussions and new ideas, on July 5 we were able to launch Startup Pirates. Right after our launch party, we started organizing our first program in Porto. This was the chance to finally test everything we had been working on, measure the impact of our program and see if we could replicate the model in other cities and countries. Lucky enough, even before the start of our first program, we were approached by a team in Lisbon interested in taking Startup Pirates there. The first event was a success and since then we’ve been working hard to take Startup Pirates to other cities and countries and support as many entrepreneurs as possible. Every day we add a few more lines in this story and we are having lots of fun! Startup Pirates wants to change the world one entrepreneur at a time!! ‘
