Present Simple  &  Present Continuous
We use the  PRESENT CONTINUOUS  for things that:  Are happening at the moment of speaking.  Are temporary and happening around now, but maybe not at the moment of speaking.  Page 27 activity 4 in your Student’s Book  Today he’s doing some gardening for our neighbours . (3) I’m writing to tell you how it feels... (5)  I’m applying for every job I can. (6)  He’s looking for his first job. (1)
We use the  PRESENT SIMPLE  for:  Daily routines and things we always/never/sometimes do.  Verbs that describe states e.g.  be, want, have (possess), understand, know, think , etc.  Page 27 activity 4 in your Student’s Book  I never get an interview . (7) He reads the adverts in the paper every day. (2) He needs a real job. (4) People think I’m too old. (8)
STATE VERBS:  I am not understanding / I don’t understand the activity.  I like him / I’m liking him.  I have / am having three brothers. I don’t remember / am not remembering her name.  State verbs express:  Opinions  Feelings  Cognition  We don’t usually use state verbs in continuous verb form like love hate  believe think understand  agree  want have (possession) know  be  I don’t understand the activity.  I like him.  I have three brothers. I don’t remember her name.
