- 2. Steps involved in producing an attractive sketch Nowadays, many people knew how to draw but they not really knew how to sketch. Sketching was a simple way to produce a picture, as long you can grab a pencil then you can sketch. Sketching was using pencils and charcoal only. This was because sketching only using creating value example like light and dark to create pictures. Sketching was a quick drawing by using free hand to draw surroundings that we observed. When sketching a picture, it was normal to produce multiple of pass lines and the tidiness of the picture was not important. Somehow, to produce a simple sketching we needed to have types of H and B pencils and desired size of papers. If you were going to water color the picture after the sketch, highly recommended to use a thicker fine art papers so that the papers will not easily get wet and spoil. So, let’s us discuss about what is the steps involved to produce an attractive sketch. First, sketched an attractive sketch was to understand what to sketch so that it can become more interesting to get other people attentions. Once you understand what to sketch you can start to think further what to sketch and start to plan the sketch. You should estimate the size of an object that wanted to sketch in the landscape or vertical paper so there was enough places to sketch whole the objects that you wish to. Before started to sketch, please be make sure that you were in a comfortable condition or position so that an attractive sketch can be produce more effectively. Please be alert that no wet or dirty hands when sketching because it might be spoil the sketch. When sketching a picture, to sketch an exactly picture was not compulsory but the important things was other people can understand what you were trying to present. Once you were ready to sketch, the sketching tools were the partner to sketch with you. The common pencils used for sketching are H and B pencils. H stands for hardness and B stands for blackness. Before you started the sketching you can start with some hand movement drawing to ensure the sketch goes smooth during sketching. Gesture drawing also a good warming up before started the sketching because it was the way of continuous movement to connect the lines to produce a sketching. It was a way of avoid lifting of pencils to produce overlapped sketching. When sketching, do not sketch too heavy and use the 2H pencil because it is usually for first sketch to produce thinner and lighter lines that were easily to rub off when a mistake occurred. After the sketch with 2H pencil, the sketched picture should be very light and barely noticeable. Used the 6H pencil to glide on the picture with exerting much pressured so that the picture became more clearly. Then, 2B pencils was ready to use for darker the lines so that the lines became more obviously and a clearer
- 3. picture. When the lines of the sketch were completed, the 6B pencil was used to add the contrast to apply the finishing outlines. This means there was no more changes for the sketch. After that, added some poorly sketched at the background so that the sketching can became more interesting and beautiful. Finally, shading came to the last part of the sketch. For the best shading result, used the softest pencils like 2H because it allowed you to blend it easily. Shading was to determine the direction of the light source and where were the shadow’s shapes and positions. So, some parts will have darker shades and vice versa. Although shading was the last step in sketching but this is the most interesting part because shading make the sketching became more realistic. In summarised, a pencil of light and a piece of paper napkin were ready to do their work when you were ready to have your sketching .However, sketching was not easy for everyone. Some people might find it very difficult to sketch but some people love to sketch and they can sketch anytime and anywhere. However, no one born to sketch perfectly so do sketch when there were free times because practised make perfect.
