Presented by
The Contoso Ltd. contains an Active Directory domain named
contoso.com. There is a server named Server1 that runs
Windows Server 2012 R2.
The company currently looking for a storage solution that must
meet the following requirements:
a. Provide fault tolerance if a single disk fails.
b. Maximize the amount of files that can be stored in
the storage space.
c. New storage can be added anytime as per
requirement.
Solution:
Storage Spaces with parity is the best suited solution for this
requirement.
Parity spaces are designed for capacity efficiency and increased
resiliency. Parity spaces are best suited for archival data and streaming
media, such as music and videos. As well as it can be expanded as per
requirement.
Deploy Storage Spaces
Requirements:
Hardware: Serial ATA (SATA) or Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) connected
disks.
Software: Server Manager
Disk Manager
Command Prompt
PowerShell
Step 1: Create a storage pool
Step 2: Create a virtual disk
Step 3: Create a volume
Step 1: Create a storage pool
>>In the Server Manager navigation pane, click
File and Storage Services.
>>In the navigation pane, click the Storage Pools
page
>>Select physical disks for the storage pool page,
do the following, and then click Next:
>>Confirm selections page, verify that the settings
are correct, and then click Create.
Step 2: Create a virtual disk
>>In New Virtual Disk Wizard is not already open, on
the Storage Pools page in Server Manager, under
STORAGE POOLS, make sure that the desired storage
pool is selected.
>>Under VIRTUAL DISKS, click the TASKS list, and
then click New Virtual Disk.
>>On the Specify the virtual disk name page, enter a
name and optional description, and then click Next.
>> We can select parity and next choose Thin then
specific size then Create
Step 3: Create a volume
>>on the Storage Pools page in Server Manager, under
VIRTUAL DISKS, right-click the desired virtual disk,
and then click New Volume.
>>On the Specify the size of the volume page, enter a
volume size, specify the units (MB, GB, or TB), and then
click Next.
>>Assign to a drive letter, configure the desired option,
and then click Next.
>> File system NTFS Then Next Confirm selections
page, verify that the settings are correct, and then click
Create.
