Story telling using statistics and data analysis

Editor's Notes

  • #5: Many aspects in our world are varies and uncertain, so why… why not Statistics? Statistics help us understand about variabilities Statistics help us measure the uncertainty so that we will be more understand about the world and be more certain Besides, Statistics tell us stories. Here we go …
  • #6: Find cheap players with potential and re-sell them to bigger teams at a higher price We go looking for unknown players in places where we know the richer teams won't go because they don't think they will find anyone talented enough for them
  • #7: It's important to see how each player will react when his team is winning, when it's losing, when it's playing at home, away, in a decisive game
  • #12: Mongolian yokozuna, sumo grand champion Hakuho (C) poses for photographs after performing the 'Dohyo-Iri' ring purification ritual in front of the reclining Buddha at Nanzoin Temple on November 6, 2011 in Sasaguri, Fukuoka, Japan.
  • #13: 7-7 Wrestler’s Predicted Win Percentage Against 8-6 Opponent 7-7 Wrestler’s Actual Win Percentage Against 8-6 Opponent 7-7 Wrestler’s Predicted Win Percentage Against 9-5 Opponent 48.7 79.6
  • #14: We see variability and uncertainty in life, but thanks God it’s normal. The world we life is a normal system, normality is everywhere. Even these falling leave subject to the rules of normality that is many things stay close to the mean, some further from the mean and only few stay far from the mean. Most of the fallen leaves lay surround the trunk, only few fall far away from the trunk.
  • #15: But… the pattern can be broken when there is a strong wind, for instance. The fallen leaves will not normal anymore. So the normal system get interfered by external factors. Many times the ones who greatly interfered the normal nature are WE… people.. or Kids. Be careful people! We might be harmful to nature.
  • #16: Another example. This is a normal house, a house with floors, walls, and roofs, with windows and doors, and of course with keys. We protect our house, our privacy, our things with keys, by locking the door or the window, the money box etc. Guess what, the function of the key is subjected to normality.
  • #17: Keys only function fully as a safety/protector for the 90% average people. For 5% divine people, they would not enter your house even though you did not lock the door. For another 5% people, they still broke in to your house even though you double lock the door.
  • #18: But I got interesting experience when I stayed at Mimi’s house in Boulder for three months. The front door got a key, but Mimi never lock the door, day and night. She simply closed the door and leave. That was amazing. Once she went abroad and left me alone for a week, she suggested me to lock the door at night… but .. As is Indri.. I was mimicking her behavior, she did not lock the door neither do I .. I just went to bed, sleep tight…and peacefully. The question is… is Mimi normal? is the neighborhood normal... or is the city normal?
