This chapter reviews literature on realizing improvement activities through different approaches to strategy making and cascading. It explores five topics: operations strategy basics, company context, strategy cascading quality, improvement performance, and leadership style. For operations strategy, it discusses content like cost, quality and technology strategies, as well as the strategy process. It finds that operations strategy should be integrated with business strategy but is often a "missing link". The literature shows a need for more empirical research on the operations strategy process and how to align operations and business strategies for effective implementation.
