Sung Lee designed a trough to study the behavior of water and alcohol mixtures using spectroscopy. The trough needs to allow for flows in one direction while minimizing disturbances. Lee calculated flow velocities and distances traveled for different water heights to determine trough dimensions. The final trough design is 90cm long, 5cm wide, and 2.5cm tall with a wedge to introduce alcohol using syringe pumps. Precise control of small volumes is needed due to the small-scale experiment.
