COUNTRY CONTEXT • Four tenure systems ( Freehold, leasehold, Mailo & Customary land tenure) • 80% - Customary land tenure system, largely unregistered • Inconsistencies, contradictions, obsolete law Gaps between Policy and Practice /Obsolete laws • Limited access to land information • Gender disparity (Land access, control and ownership) • Low capacity of land administration institutions • Uncoordinated and unplanned developments in urban area • Spatial disparities in service delivery • High prevalence of Land conflicts • Low cadastral coverage

GLTN BRIEFING AND PROGRAMMEGLTN BRIEFING AND PROGRAMME LESSONS LEARNT • Stakeholder engagement and involvement at all levels is very paramount. • Collaboration with various stakeholders reduces the cost of implementing the project within a specified period of time. • Land Policy Implementation is underway but requires continued engagement and support from all partners • Field tested land tools and approaches and developed capacities are key in up-scaling efforts • Technology facilities work but more time for planning and training is required.

GLTN BRIEFING AND PROGRAMMEGLTN BRIEFING AND PROGRAMME ACTIONS AREAS FOR SCALING UP • Establish data management infrastructure at the local level linked to National data & updating mechanisms • Develop feedback mechanisms at different levels • Technical support and working groups to enable legal framework reviews • Provide for legal provisions for Geo-tech tools • Enhance more practical capacity building programs • Develop strategies for continuity and tracking capacity • Integrate GEO-tools (GLTN,GEC,STDM) • Set up multi sectoral platforms to handle development plans • Provide financial and technical support for infrastructure at district & local levels • Systematic registration and mapping of land rights using Fit for Purpose
