Swept Source Optical Coherence Tomography (SS-OCT) was introduced in 2012 and offers greater penetration and faster imaging, enabling visualization of deeper structures like the choroid and retina. Compared to Spectral-Domain OCT (SD-OCT), SS-OCT provides quicker acquisition times, improved imaging quality, and the ability to visualize complex retinal conditions, though it is more costly and has some limitations like lower axial resolution. While SS-OCT represents a significant advancement in ocular imaging technology, its widespread adoption remains limited.
