8th Grade Science Curriculum:
   • Prologue: The Physical Setting
   • Unit 1: The Nature of Science
   • Unit 2: Astronomy
   • Unit 3: Earth Science
   • Unit 4: Energy and its Conservation
   • Unit 5: Electricity and Magnetism
   • Unit 6: Chemistry
   • Unit 7: Ecology
   • Unit 8: Global Climate Change
5 Simple Class Rules:
      1. Respect yourself, other students, school property, and the teacher (substitutes
             too) at all times.
      2. Do not interfere with another student’s right to learn.
      3. Come to class prepared with all materials each day (including an open mind and a
             positive attitude).
      4. Class begins the moment the bell rings. All students should be seated in their
assigned seats, and working on the “Do Now” when the bell rings. An official
pass must accompany all late arrivals.
5.Always follow all safety rules in the laboratory and classroom (i.e. absolutely no
eating or drinking in the classroom at any time).
***These are in addition to all school rules in the School Code of Conduct and Student-
                                     Parent Handbook***

Grading Policy:
All work counts towards your grade. All quizzes and tests will require a parent/guardian
signature to acknowledge grades.
Tests (50%): about 2 per quarter, approximately 100 points each
Quizzes (20%): about 3 per quarter, approximately 25 points each
Labs (20%): about 5 per quarter worth 25-50 points per lab depending on scope of
lab. Late labs will be penalized 10% per day. When working with lab partners,
each student must participate equally in their groups’ tasks.
Homework (10%): 10 points per fully completed and on time assignment. Late
assignments will only be accepted if due to an excused absence.
Extra Credit: Students will be given the opportunity to earn extra credit if ALL of
their homework and lab work has been fully completed and on-time for that
quarter. Extra credit assignments will be posted on the eboard and announced
             in class.
Academic Dishonesty Policy: In accordance with district policy, any student caught
cheating or voluntarily enabling another student to cheat will at the very least receive a
zero for that assessment. Further action may be sought depending on the severity of the
offense.

Parental Role: As a parent your goal is to have your child be successful in both school and
life. As such, we are a team to help your child succeed and reach their greatest potential.
To facilitate transparency and student success I keep my eboard up to date at
GGill2.hhh.site.eboard.com. Here both parents and students can see most classroom
documents, notes and testing schedule. If your child is absent they can find daily handouts
and activities on this class website. Please feel free to contact me by e-mail
ggill@hhh.k12.ny.us or by calling the school. I will be happy to discuss your child’s
performance at any time.
