“I’ve said before we live in this barbell economic system in Dallas.
We’ve got 18 billionaires – and let’s not even talk about half-
billionaires and quarter-billionaires. We have a ton of those. And then
39% of our population are asset poor? That’s a big, big issue.”
Mike Rawlings, Mayor of Dallas
Numbers Don’t Lie…Skills Gap is Real
 5000 students fail to graduate from high school every year.
 Only 13% of students graduate ready for college.
Within Hispanic and African American populations only 4% graduate ready for college.
 Fewer than 50% of higher education students graduate with degrees.
 Lifetime cost to our region for each class of high school dropouts equals 5
billion dollars.
“We want to make it easier to join students looking for jobs with businesses
looking to hire. We want to put community colleges and employers together
to create programs that match curricula in the classroom with the needs of
the boardroom. Skills for America’s Future would help connect more
employers, schools, and other job training providers, and help them share
knowledge about what practices work best. The goal is to ensure there are
strong partnerships between growing industries and community college or
training programs in every state in the country.”
Barack Obama, President of the United States
