Defining Enterprise 2.0 February 3, 2010
On February 3, 2010, the TAG Enterprise 2.0 society held an open meeting with members to discuss; What is Enterprise 2.0 and what does it mean for our organizations?
The Challenges that Enterprise 2.0 forces us to face include: Credibility - Credible sources can be drowned out in a noisy conversation. Consistency - He said, She said…which path shall we follow? Corporate Policy/Governance - What can we do, should we do, should we never do?
Challenges that are specific to organizations that are embracing Enterprise 2.0 include: What are the best uses for the tools? How do we measure the value of these tools? How to we close the knowledge gap about these tools among the employees? How do we manage new diversity tensions that might be exposed? How do we monitor the activity?
Challenges that are specific to organizations that are NOT embracing Enterprise 2.0 include: Missing out on gathering vital information about their customers Missing potential new revenue streams Not getting the complete view of the perception of the brand from customers and from employees Rogue efforts that can compromise IP and reputation
Two levels: Internal community vs external community How are they different Stakeholders (internal and external) Different goals, purpose, message, measurement Governance Company culture will be impacted drastically Goals of the each department are different and sometimes conflicting How are they are the same Employee’s personal brand is important Stakeholders (internal and external) Everyone has a stake in the success in the enterprise Governance Who will get to speak to the customers? Message of each department Different points of view of “do the right thing”
Benefits? Making more money Customer-influenced brand development Relevant Real-time information Requirement to be yourself Understanding your customers better Better communications flow Listening to customers/employees
Considerations Teach employees critical thinking skills. What is negative? Anonymity is not an option for brands. Engaging in open market discussions; Create the space so that you can be responsive to the discussions. Risk of losing your trade secret rights. Empower and educate employees increases loyalty.
Reputation Management When/how to respond if the message is not getting attention When/how to respond when negative information is coming from negative people When/how to respond when the negative information is credible
Empowering employees with a different set of tools Work from home Collaboration across departments Share in a whole different way Efficiency -Google Apps –Wiki –Sharepoint – GoogleWave – Internal Facebook type network How accessible tools are and to whom in the organization?
Challenges Time/Distractions Lack of depth Learning Curve Habits Where do you draw the line of personal vs business Understanding what you can and cannot do Culture Division of the haves and the have nots Lack of privacy/feeling of vulnerability Use it to make decisions?
