Task 3a Front Page Own Magazine Analysis
- 1. This is a mid-shot while using depth of field. The focus is on his face and the hands are out of focus as they’re closer to the camera. The model is young to connote the music genre he represents and how it’s for a target audience who enjoy current and relevant chart music. His direct address also makes the audience focus their attention on him to make it more personal. A barcode is presented on this magazine in the corner to not attract too much attention along with the price separately with the date. It’s in smaller print to other text which denotes it has less importance to the other text. A drop quote is used above the main cover line to link to the double page spread inside and to intrigue the audience as if people are unfamiliar with the model then this may give them a small insight to them and what the article itself entails. The masthead is in the top, left third of the front cover and the main image partly covers the masthead demonstrating it’s an established magazine and already has loyal customers so doesn’t feel the need to convey the brand heavily. The artist’s mise-en-scene is a simple white t-shirt paired with a black jacket. This represents the colour scheme of black, red and white as the masthead and main coverline reinforce. His facial expression is joyful to demonstrate the genre of music this way and how it’s not serious like his character. Other coverlines appear to the right of the main image and leave bold, white titles to contrast the model’s jacket which display other artists names as they will be familiar with the genre and so will be of the audience’s interest. In smaller print and darker, a short description to give a preview of what NME are offering. The layout displays the main coverline on top of the main image to anchor one another. The masthead is partly hidden showing the artist is the main interest and the other coverlines fit around the model to again show they’re not the obvious focus of the cover. His drop quote is in the centre as it’s where the reader’s eye will be. This magazine doesn’t associate with a strapline which connotes they don’t have anything to prove and they already have high prestige without having a strapline to explain their presence.
