Task 9
- 1. Task 9 Title of magazine I will name my magazine Acoustic as this name relates to the genre of indie/rock because a lot of indie rock music is played with acoustic instruments. Also the word Acoustic connotes freshness as indie rock music is unique and seems to have different songs. Explanation of choice of genre I chose indie/rock genre because I personally listen to a lot of artists from this genre and I believe that it is a fast growing genre due to the artists that are so popular from this category. My research and planning has revealed that this genre is known as alternative rock therefore majority prefer this genre over pure rock this as it versatile and popular. The results of the questionnaire have also revealed that people think indie/rock magazines are effective because it increases the popularity of the indie/rock genre. When I researched about the history of the genre indie/rock it crossed me that indie/rock is a big genre which makes it easier to produce a music magazine as there is a lot to cover. Initial ideas about front cover My focus group has suggested that because my target audience is youthful bright powerful colours should be used as a colour scheme as they are eye-catching and make a front cover appealing. Contrastingly indie/rock is normally linked to darker colours due to its "rock" element. However as my music magazine will be unique the colour scheme will contrast, probably two colours, one colour will be bright and another colour will be dull this relates to this genre being alternative version of rock. I will have one main image for a
- 2. featuring artist and small subsidiary images for other featuring artists as this will show the magazine has a lot to offer. The masthead will go across the page so it makes a bold statement, the main image will be overlapping the masthead to show that the magazine is the base of the content. The cover lines will include pull quotes for the main image, a flash (Special features), fashion tips, music tips as these were popular from the questionnaire results. Initial ideas about contents page The analysis of a contents page has taught me that a contents page is more image based than text based, the questionnaire and focus group results have shown a image based contents page is preferred over a text based contents page therefore I will listen to my target audience and make my content page image based. I will have subsidiary images for each special page along with a big page number probably 3 of these. The main image will be placed at the top with a large page number. The rest of the contents pages will still have large numbers with a small caption. On the side there will be a indie/rock music chart as this was requested by the target audience. Along with aneditor’s note to add to the professionalism of the music magazine. Initial ideas about Double page spread Questionnaire and focus group results have suggested that a double page spread should be equally image and text based. This is why I will have one page of a main image and the other page of an article. The other page will contain a small subsidiary image however the main image will be a long shot with a pull quote from the article as analysing double page spreads have revealed this is professional for a music magazine as well as expressive. The banner will go across the page like a bold statement.
- 3. Initial ideas about Photographs The photographs will reflect the indie/rock genre as being energetic and will reflect the mast head as being exciting. Props that will be used might be a guitar/drums/ piano as these are key instruments of indie/rock. Also the background will be plain due to the effective mis- en-scene of the images. The costumes in the photographs will relate to the stereotype of indie rock stars.
