- 3. Music • The impact the music has in the film, on the audience is that it creates emotion and atmosphere for them. For example, when Lola is running, the music creates tension and this emphasise and strengthens the audience’s feeling of tension and increases the worry they would have for Lola. This helps keep them interested in the film because of this worry, making them pay more attention to Lola and the plot. • The music also stops at dramatic points in the film to emphasise the drama and tension. • This type of music is incidental music.
- 4. Dialogue • Most of the dialogue used helps explain the plot to the audience. The dialogue clearly tells the plot to the audience, and they would follow the dialogue so the use of dialogue in the film helps them to understand the film much better and allows them to follow the film easier. • This film has less dialogue than most films, and this emphasises the action and the running which increases the audience’s worry and tension.
- 5. Sound Effects • Diegetic sounds are used in the film. The dog barking at Lola is a diegetic sound. This helps create verisimilitude within the diegesis for the audience and this makes the film seem more real to them. • A clock ticking is a foley sound that is commonly used. This helps emphasise the importance of the twenty minutes to the audience and helps strengthen the idea that time plays an important part in the film.

- 8. • The most common motif in the film is the use of a clock. Most scenes contain a clock. This signifies to the audience the counting down of the 20 minutes and the importance of the 20 minutes to the characters. It also helps show to the audience how the 20 minutes is real time (because it shows the accurate continuation of time and minutes). This helps them to understand the narrative because it helps them understand the pace and time the narrative is moving at.
- 10. • The colour red is another motif in the film. Lola’s hair is red, her phone is red, a lot of the items in scenes are red and sometimes entire scenes are in the colour tone of red. This creates the feel of anger to the audience because red is the colour of anger. However, it could be there to signify the life threatening danger Mani was in, because red is also considered to be a dangerous colour. The colour red shows and keeps the image of danger of the characters and their situation of life or death.
- 11. Recurring Themes • Time is the theme that keeps reoccurring in the film. This is to show that time is not on the characters side. Time is shown to be a reoccurring theme by clocks being throughout the film and this shows the audience that the twenty minutes to them is extremely important to them and shows that they need to do what they need to do within that time or something bad would happen to them.

This is used to show the audience that the twenty minutes has started again and helps them understand that they have another attempt at getting the money. • Flash Backs are also used. This shows the story of how Mani lost the money. This helps the audience understand the backstory of the film. It helps them follow and understand the plot and why Mani needs the money and why he needs to get it fast. This also allows the audience to learn more traits about the character of Mani. • Flash Forwards are used. These are used to show the future of the characters Lola runs into on her running travels. These show the audience more traits about these unimportant characters and makes them seem more 3D to the audience and how they have lives behind the three seconds their shown on screen.
