Information Item: Special Education Task Force Talking Points


Date: February 6, 2013



Talking Points:

   1. The Special Education Task Force met for the sixth time on February 6, 2013.
   2. The ultimate instructional program delivery model should include some flexibility at the site
      level while creating coherence across the district that provides for the full continuum of
      services for all of our students.
   3. The ultimate model of instructional program delivery should work in concert with the
      collaboration and professional development already in place in the district.
   4. Maximizing integration of students with special needs into general education environments will
      have the best opportunity to develop collaboration between general education teachers
      and special education teachers. The implementation of the VUSD RtI Guide will promote
      collaboration.
   5. Keeping parents informed about the benefits of a new instructional program delivery model
      for special education will ensure a successful implementation.
   6. The next Special Education Task Force meeting will take place on February 27, 2013.
