Audience Research Summary
Survey Results 
• When asked, “What would make a music magazine stand out 
to you?”, 62% of people replied free gifts and 54% said an 
image of a popular artists. Here is a pie chart to represent the 
data.

These are the results I received regarding what colours the 
audience would like to see in my magazine.

• When asked about their hobbies I received 
many different responses such as watching 
movies/television, listening to music, reading 
shopping, making jewellery, watching 
musicals. This types of interests are 
stereotypical for a teenage girl and therefore 
will include these in my magazine to appeal to 
my target audience as best possible.

• I asked in my survey “What type of 
feature/article would you find most 
interesting?” The answers I obtained were; 
gossip, celebrities, dating/rumours, album 
releases, interviews, tour releases/releases 
and the idea of a ‘facts you didn’t know’ 
article.

• When asked, “What would you most expect to 
find on the cover of music magazine?”, I got 
back different answers such as music 
artists/bands, gossip/latest news, lots of text 
and bold colours, images of celebrities and 
also the price.

• In my survey I asked who the persons top 3 
artists are, they include One Direction, Tinie 
Tempah, Sam Smith, Miley Cyrus, 5SOS, The 
Vamps, Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, John Newman 
and more. These will fit in with the pop genre 
that my magazine is going to be and also the 
fact that they are popular with my target age 
range helps.

I also asked in my survey whether they would you rather a 
main article about a solo artist or band/group, the results are 
as follows.

• Music magazines usually come with a free gift, 
so I decided to ask what types of gifts they 
would like to receive in the magazine. The 
responses I got included sample make-up, 
album vouchers, poster, sticker and band 
merchandise such as wrist bands.

• Another question from my survey was “What 
do you like most about other music 
magazines?” The responses I got back 
included posters, bright colours, interviews, 
tour information and pictures of bands and 
artists.

• I also asked what in particular would make 
you buy a magazine. The majority of 
responses talked about price and also how 
interesting the articles and interviews are. 
Other points were based on who was on the 
cover and how much it stood out.

• I left the last question open to comments that 
they thought would be helpful to my research. 
I received different points regarding font type 
and what colour schemes they thought I 
should use which was helpful as it gave me 
personal opinions on how to design my cover.

magazine? 
•Are the colours used successful in making the 
magazine bright and fun? 
•Are the fonts used good at creating a positive vibe? 
•What colours and fonts would you expect to see on 
the cover of a pop magazine? 
•What content would you expect to be in a pop music 
magazine? 
•What would make a pop magazine stand out to you 
personally? 
•What do you think of the image used on the front 
cover? 
•Do you like the busy cover or a cover with less text? 
•Would you change anything to this cover to make it 
more fun and exciting?

The use of images and bright colours was the 
centre of both responses and also the use of 
popular artists for example Taylor Swift and 
Justin Bieber.

Yes, the bright colours achieve this.

Yes, the mixture of serif and sans serif will also
