Task9
Typography
• From carrying out a great amount of detailed
research, I have concluded that the typography
used on my music magazine needs to be mainly
sans serif, as this font type connotes youth and
modernity, therefore will appeal to my young
target audience. However, I will also use serif
fonts, so that a strong and effective contrast
between the typography is created. For example,
I will put my masthead in a sans serif font as this
is very conventional, however I will place the
cover lines in serif fonts, so that a clear contrast
between the two is easily shown.
Layout
• From my research and interviews I also
concluded that during the layout I need to
include the route-of-the-eye technique. This
because interviewees said that they prefer
structured, ordered and easy to read
magazine covers. I will also include the use of
left third, so that the cover lines can still be
viewed when my magazine is stacked on
shelves in stores.
Colour
• On my magazine I will include a bright and
vibrant colour scheme. This will make my
magazine extremely eye-catching, intriguing
and colourful. Also, in my target audience
questionnaire, interviewees said they prefer
to see lively and captivating colours. I will also
use hints of black and white, as these are very
classy colours that will signify sophistication.
Images
• The images in my magazine will all be of
famous music artists. The photos will be very
classy and refined, as this will connote my
model to look like a very chic and glamourous
celebrity. The colours will also be bright and
fun, to reflect the genre of pop music. The
main image on the front cover will be a close-up
of the musician (like Billboard covers), so
that the artist is clearly the main attraction.
Language
• I will use colloquial language within my magazine,
as the informal language will help appeal to a
young adult target audience. However, I will use
elements of formal language to create a more
serious tone in places when needed, which will
also create a sharp contrast between the
language. However, I will avoid using
slang/abbreviations, as I want my magazine to be
represented as very classy and sophisticated.
Whereas slang is associated with younger
children and not my young adult/old teenager
target audience.
