- 1. My magazine proposal: Title of my magazine: Soul - I chose this title for my magazine as firstly, it was most popular from the options on my questionnaire. Secondly, the title gives of a vibe of R&B music, making it obvious what the genre is of the magazine from the title. Explanation of choice of genre The genre for my magazine is R&B. I have chosen this genre because it is becoming hugely popular amongst the youth, which is included in my target audience. I have also chosen this genre because it is quite mainstream already and new artists continue to emerge everyday therefore ideas for the contents of the magazine would never run out. Target Audience Profile Name: Cally Reed Age: 19 Gender: Female Ethnicity: Mixed Race Lifestyle: Cally really enjoys listening to R&B music, along with hip-hop. She has just recently started university and enjoys going to gigs with her new friends who enjoy the same type of music as her. The gigs she attends are usually of R&B or hip-hop artists, for example she has an upcoming gig for an extremely popular R&B and hip-hop artist, Drake coming up soon. However, Cally is also quite interested in electronic dance music. She works part-time, around 20 hours a week. She attends university to study biochemistry which allows her to spend money on purchases such as music magazines and concerts.

Initial ideas about front page: Magazines such as ‘Vibe’ are what I take huge inspiration from for my front cover, as this magazine often talks about hip-hop music and also includes the R&B genre. Even though ‘Billboard’ is a magazine based on the charts, I take inspiration from that brand too as the front covers are quite classy and I aim to make my magazine covers have a similar effect. Initial ideas about contents page: I aim for my magazine contents page to look more like Vibe’s contents pages as I feel they are more appropriate for a music magazine based on the genre of R&B. Their contents are often simple and attractive. An example is:
- 3. Initial ideas about double page spread: I have planned to make my double-page spread look similar to the style of NME’s double page spread. I’d like my spread to have images on one side and text and information on the other so it is clearer for the audience to read the information and view the image. However, I’d like to combine the text and image somehow, like the first example provided below of the DPS based on Mark Ronson. The title is over the picture and creates a good effect. I aim to recreate something like this: Initial ideas about photos: Ideas for the photos heavily depend on the gender of the model for my front cover. I have planned for the model to be female, therefore she will dress as female a typical female R&B, so will have sophisticated clothing on. I have also planned for the model to hold a prop, such as a microphone, or maybe an instrument such as a piano or saxophone could be included, as these represent my chosen genre of music the most.
