Modern learners are demanding, resourceful, tech savvy, and crave recognition. They choose what information to retain and prioritize experiences over formal learning. Technology enables on-demand and mobile learning that is easy to access. Learning management systems and tools like the Tin Can API/xAPI allow learning to be tracked across systems and devices. While technology should not distract from learning, it offers opportunities for gamification, microlearning and creating engaging content to satisfy modern learners who are time poor.

- 11. “Google-isation” The constant availability of the Internet through computers, tablets and, most importantly, smart phones, means we no longer need to retain information in the same way as we did pre-Internet. We just need to learn how to access that information efficiently.

- 40. What does that mean?? Tin Can Statements • You don’t need an expensive LMS • The statements aren’t restricted by technology • You can also include learning undertaken using social media profiles • It builds up a record of all learning

Mobile Learning • Why aren’t there lots of companies offering mobile learning? – People are learning using their mobile devices using a range of apps and websites – mobile learning is happening, it just isn’t being labelled as such – It’s possible to use authoring tools to create your own “mobile learning” content

Summary • It is now easier and more cost-effective to use learning technology to satisfy the demands of modern learners • You don’t need an expensive LMS or employ specialists to host and create engaging content • Learners are embracing technology in all aspects of their lives, learning needs to be part of that • E-Learning will play an important role, but people will still learn best from interaction and great trainers.
