Nepal's telecommunications sector has grown significantly since 2005. In 2005, Nepal Telecom was established as the sole provider, but the sector has since been liberalized. Major developments include the establishment of the Telecommunications Development Board in 2016, the formation of Nepal Telecommunications Corporation in 2026, and the entry of private operators such as Ncell in 2032. Mobile penetration has increased dramatically, reaching 69% of the population by 2061. The top mobile operators by market share are Ncell, NTC, and UTL.
