The document presents a framework called the Knowledge-Based Process Improvement (KBPI) framework for improving knowledge-intense business processes using knowledge management. The KBPI framework was developed based on theoretical research and tested through three case studies. It uses a process ontology to formally describe business processes and an improvement methodology to guide identifying and addressing areas for potential improvement at the process and function levels. The case studies demonstrated that the KBPI framework can help organizations systematically improve knowledge-intense business processes by gaining a detailed understanding of their processes and rationalizing changes based on their impact.
