ALISON PREECE Implementation of an ICT Training plan for the Community
Aims To create a sustainable learning environment within which the community can acquire confidence and competence in the use of ICT. To train individuals to develop the ICT skills necessary to enable them access to information and learning through technology
Objectives To deliver training and learning opportunities which are appropriate and relevant to the needs of the individual. All individuals to be given equal opportunity to enhance their ICT skills and reach a level of confidence and competence in relation to general ICT skills and knowledge. A variety of learning methods will be made available to enable individual choice and motivation in achieving course outcomes. Allow each individual the opportunity to achieve accreditation if desirable for their learning achievements. To review and modify the learning programme regularly.
Objectives To advance lifelong learning and social inclusion To support and encourage the use of ICT by means of quality training and learning opportunities. To support lifelong learning initiatives.
Training Needs Analysis Potential Learners Learning Materials Recruitment/Promotion Taster Sessions Technical Infrastructure support Barriers Implement Course
Training Needs Analysis What the identified needs for Blaenau Gwent. Which skills are necessary in the area. Which ICT courses are involved in the training plan. What skills do employers want.
Technical Infrastructure Work with the IT Support Officer ensuring that each venue has access to the technical infrastructure necessary to support learning. Involve the IT Support Officer on the design of the courses and obtain input about software/hardware requirements
Potential Learners Investigate who needs to be trained Use training needs analysis How should they be trained Tailor the teaching provision to the learners and let them feel a part of how it is implemented. In a community setting learners usually require a more relaxed setting and informal teaching styles.
Recruitment Recruitment strategies for learners should be as comprehensive and varied as possible.   Leaflets and posters available in libraries, community groups, places of worship, post offices, job centres, schools and shops. open days and taster sessions public events advertising and the local media  word of mouth
Promotion Build Awareness of the Centres Create interest Provide information Stimulate demand for learning Reinforce the need for learning
Materials & Resources How will the training materials be developed/acquired and implemented Use what is already available, recycle and improve on it continually. Liaise with IT Support Officer to make sure resources are available and in working order at each centre
Taster Sessions Taster sessions to be offered at various centres Gather data using customer feedback and user satisfaction surveys Review course material Evaluate course content
Support Support learners  offer information and advice make courses accessible give advice about help with fees etc.
Barriers to learning Investigate and overcome any learning barriers. Funding issues Times and venues Lack of childcare facilities Fear of the unknown Bad experience in the past Not enough time
Teaching Strategies Active Learning Distance/Online Learning  Workshop Learning Practical and Demonstration Tutor-led sessions
Learning Styles Visual learners learn through seeing .  Auditory Learners learn through listening .  Tactile Learners learn through doing .  To cater for student’s needs and to make learning more enjoyable varied teaching styles should be employed.
