Story of Alchemist by Paulo
Coelho

million copies in 150 countries
and translated into 60 languages

◦Alchemist
  Santiago is a shepherd who journey
everywhere with his sheep.
 One day he had a dream about
treasures in the pyramids in the
desert.
 So he sell his sheep and journey to
the desert.
Upon his journey, he was robbed so
he work under a crystal merchant.
 After saving an amount of money,
he join a caravan which will travel
across the Sahara desert.
 In the journey, he met an
Englishman who wants to be an
Alchemist.
The caravan stops on an Oasis
because there is tribal war further
beyond the desert. There, he met
Fatima, the girl he loved.
  In the oasis, he also met the 200-
years-old alchemist.
 Then when they taught that it is safe
to travel, they go along their journey
to the pyramids.
 But they were captured by the
tribesmen.
 To be fled by the enemy, Santiago
proved that he was powerful by
morphing into wind.
 After their escape, they go separate
ways.
 Santiago go on to the pyramids.
 In the pyramids, Santiago found
nothing. He met someone who
dreamed about a treasure in a ruined
church.
 Then Santiago realized that his
treasure is in Spain.
 So he went back and found his
treasure.
 The Gypsy's interpretation of
Santiago's dream (including her
urging him to go to Egypt)
 Santiago s dream and his meeting
with Melchizedek Old king
 Santiago finds the job with the
merchant
 Santiago falls in love with Fatima on the way to
Al-Fayoum, but eventually leaves her to continue
his quest
 Santiago turns into wind and frightens some Arab
soldiers who attempt to capture him and his party
 Santiago meets the alchemist, who demonstrates
his power with the philosopher's stone
 Santiago finds that his dream treasure is in Spain
before returning to Fatima
  • When you really want something, the entire
universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.
 • Language of the world tells us that universe is
tied together.
 • To find ones destiny is persons only obligation
 . • Those who don’t understand their personal
legend will fail to comprehend its teachings. • All
things are originated from a single soul which is
the soul of the world and are linked to one
another.
 Literally, alchemy is the process of changing metal
into precious gold
 It is not easy, and the alchemist possesses a
unique skill, somewhat of a rare and mysterious
knowledge
 Santiago wants to experience change; therefore,
he gave up his studies to be a shepherd and
travel
 Following one’s “Personal Legend”
 Fear of failure
 What other themes can you think of?
 • The fear of failure is biggest obstacle to success.
• Real treasure is journey itself. • Darkest hour of
midnight comes just before dawn. • Allah has
prepared a path for everyone to follow, and given
us the power of thinking and power of decisions to
choose the path. We just have to choose the right
path by reading the signs provided to us.
 • Sometimes we should leave things as they are,
they might be beneficial to us later on. •
Sometimes in our lives, we lose control of our life,
and our lives are then controlled by our fate. This
is the world’s greatest lie.
