The Brookwood Community is a 485-acre nonprofit in Brookshire, Texas that serves 200 adults with disabilities. It has high energy consumption costs that are its largest single operating expense. The proposed Greenbrook Energy Program aims to completely eliminate Brookwood's rising utility costs through sustainable energy solutions like solar, wind, and water wells to create a profit center. The plan estimates $5.5 million is needed and will be fundraised through events, social media campaigns, and partnerships with energy companies. Judging finds large wind turbines and solar are feasible while a water plant is not. Fundraising efforts like a horse show are also feasible to fund transforming Brookwood into a sustainable community through renewable energy.
