Major thinkers included Locke, who believed people form governments to protect natural rights like life, liberty, and property. Montesquieu advocated for separation of powers among branches of government. Physiocrats rejected mercantilism in favor of laissez faire economic policies with little government interference. Adam Smith supported free markets regulated by supply and demand.
