Who is funding mountain adaptation projects?
444 projects
7560 projects
Where is the funding going to?
Are these countries the most vulnerable?
76% of mountain funding
Key messages
• Switzerland as the key bilateral player in funding mountain solutions with focus in the Andes
and Himalaya. Potential to enhance learnings and upscale experience between these
regions.
• The allocation of adaptation funding is something of a compromise between the
vulnerability and the economic, social and institutional readiness of the target country.
Upscaling of tried and tested solutions may be an opportunity for funders to take more risks,
and attempt interventions in the most vulnerable countries.
• We lack a robust and reliable indicator of vulnerability or risk for the worlds mountain
regions ->the specific vulnerabilities of mountain communities and types of hazards they
face are not well captured in global indices.
• Information on mountain solutions has been piecemeal and dispersed. What are
mountain solutions, financing, what has worked/not worked, how challenges overcome?
-> The clear need for a dedicated platform on mountain solutions.
