The judge levels
- 2. Level 1 • What do you think being a Level 1/Local Judge means?
- 3. Level 1 • Level 1 judges are local judges who oversee local tournaments, run Regular REL events, or work as a floor judge on larger Competitive Level events. • Local Judges are the main envoys to the retail community and work with (sometimes for) retailers. They can even be the retailers themselves in most cases. • This level is the core of store level events Such as Grand Prix Trials.
- 4. Level 1 • L1s are expected to have a working knowledge of the MIPG and Tournament Structure to best assist the Store owner in running these events. Also it may be necessary to familiarize yourself with the Wizard Event Reporter program. • There are documents available to help you with this on the Judge Wiki.
- 5. Level 1 • To maintain: – Act as a judge at a sanctioned event once every six months. • If you need help it is good to contact your local judge community so you guys can help eachother grow. If you need some help on finding or building a local judge community it is good to contact your Regional Coordinator.
- 6. Level 2 • What things do you think being an Area or a Level 2 Judge means?
- 7. Level 2 • At Level 2 or at the Area Judge level the responsibilities grow • It's common for L2 judges to organize events and work with multiple stores in their area in improving events as well. • L2's are the core of The Grand Prix circuit and other Comp. level events • And L2's can certify L1's.
- 8. Level 2 • Community Building: – At these events or maybe even around your store people are always watching so there is always an opportunity for Mentorship. So at L2 we are look towards to the creation of L1’s. – L2s are expected to know how to mentor and how to generate exams.
- 9. Level 2 • Working competitive events: – Most store level events such as FNM are run by L1's. Some stores plan on running larger events, such as a SCG qualifier or the equivalent. They require someone who has a much tighter grasp on event management and rules/IPG knowledge. They will turn to L2's to help out and HJ the event. – It is expected of L2s to know how to work effectively on a team while at Grand Prix’s and larger Events such as SCG Opens Or TCG Player Events.
- 10. Level 2 • Program: – A huge part of L2 is building community and making each other better so as an L2 you are expected to be willing to work with other judges in the community. The way to do this outside of tournaments is through different programs and projects in the community.
- 11. Level 2 • Requirements to maintain: – Act as a judge at a sanctioned event once every six months, and a sanctioned CompREL event once every twelve months. – Act as a judge in at least two different locations every twelve months.
- 12. Level 3 • What do you think are some of the responsibilities at Level 3?
- 13. Level 3 • Regional Judges (L3s) are the leaders of premiere organized play and the judge communities in their regions. They generally operate in large areas, provinces, and countries. They are recognized as regional leaders and are respected in their communities.
- 14. Level 3 • 3’s are the representatives of their local regions and must maintain a presence in their community, on mailing lists, web forums, chat rooms and other social medium.
- 15. Level 3 • Regional Judges are expected to show strength in the following areas: – Leadership, Presence and Charisma – Teamwork and Diplomacy – Penalty and Policy Philosophy – Communication Skills – Attitude and Maturity – Self-Evaluation – Program Construction and Philosophy – Stress and Conflict Management – Investigations
- 16. Level 4 • They are expected to head judge Grand Prix events, two-hundred plus player events, and organizing a staff of judges. • They are expected to work closely with DCI or Wizards Staff on policies and programs
- 17. Level 4 • International judges are expected to often write articles, reports, reviews, and other documents for use in developing the judge program. • They are the leaders of the various projects and programs within the Judge community that helps advance the program in one way or another.
- 18. Level 5 • They are just that professional Judges, these are the guys that WOTC calls on when trying to book staff for Pro Tour level events.
- 19. Level 5 • These Guys are our Fearless leaders, they are those who have their hands in each and every little thing that we judges do. Everything Policy Change and Judge Protocol has been created and or approved and debated over by these 4 folk. They like to mostly play the background and handle the dirty work while pushing us to excel and do things that will better the program.
- 20. Level 5 • These are also the people we look towards when a ruling is a little foggy and when policies do not seem to be ideal. They are always willing and ready to talk, especially when it can better us as judges and better the program as a whole.
