There has been a massive increase in investment in China's technology sector over the past decade. Venture capital investment in China almost doubled from $7 billion in 2013 to $13 billion in 2014. This growth has been driven by an increase in available capital, successful Chinese tech companies that have attracted more investors, entrepreneurs becoming investors themselves, and thriving tech hubs that are creating more opportunities. However, with more money has come greater competition for deals among both international and domestic investors. Valuations have also increased dramatically in some cases.
